And We’re Back … Sort Of

If you have been by this site in the last week or so, you will have noticed that it seems pretty “broken” . That would be because my webhost completely hosed my site in their “migration” attempt. If you want to know who did it, I’ll tell you: IPOWER. And I’ll never use them again. Period.

The final straw was when they “fixed” my problem with my databases. I went to my site got a “500 Internal Server Error” … I picked up my files from that server, plopped them onto this one, and VOILA! it works … and IPOWER was trying to blame me!!

I’m now over at Network Solutions (that 500 Internal Server Error was probably a blessing in disguise), and I’m already noticing a speed difference - it’s faster! Not to mention much, much more stable.

Please bear with the mess, I’m working as fast as I can to retrieve data from the old (doggishly slow) servers over at IPOWER.

Don’t fret for me. I learned from previous mistakes - I have backups.

A friend had her site totally deleted from ipower though she had been paid up through the year. Everything was a loss as she didn’t have a back up. She didn’t even know until she noticed she was getting less business. I have a personal site with them that hasn’t had much problems but I don’t know if I’ll keep it just cause I have no use for it anymore.

    Hi Jacqui -

Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been busy “stabilizing” my whole site and its gazillion databases. I had to do a lot of hacking to get this established when it first went up, and now I’m out about 2 weeks of labor intensive debugging. IPOWER should pay me for my time invested… I am very, very lucky to have recent backups. I had just finished some upgrades (remember the expansion of the “Downloads”?) when they blew me out of the water. I was able to roll back to a stable point in history and have a go at it again.

The positive side to the whole thing is that it put me in the mood to tackle some of the extras I had been planning to install. That being said - it’s not 100% - but it’s darn functional.

I’m really enjoying the lightbox support … now it doesn’t take you to a new page to enlarge the photos!

The new server is set up very well, and very easy to use. All is well that ends well, I guess.

I can’t imagine what I would have done if I wasn’t an engineer with all of the tools I have over here on my computer. I probably would have lost my whole site.

Good luck with your site, do you want to know how to make a backup?
