The Downloads Section is Bigger & Better… but the Best is Yet to Come

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Phew!!

I have just finished a massive upload and restructuring of the Downloads section. This was “Phase II” of the security and software upgrades to this site.

You will notice that there are a couple of new sections …

  1. The International Craft Magazine Stand
    1. I have scanned the covers, table of contents, and designs within many of my personal magazines. I have an extensive collection, and the Vintage area is not well represented … yet.
    2. There are many collections not represented yet, i.e “Filatura Di Crosa”, “Burda”, “Patrones”, “Mrs. Stylebook”, “Lady Boutique”, etc, etc … They will be there, eventually.
    3. These are not magazines I’m offering for sale, they are simply here to inspire you with design ideas, or to research a particular back issue.
  2. Free Vintage Knit & Crochet Patterns
    1. As the title suggests, these are patterns that are no longer under copyright therefore I can provide them to you for free.
    2. On the menu for this area is Minerva and possibly Vogue Knitting book. I need to look into the status of these first. This area is still under construction.

Please note that hotlinking is no longer supported via the new security. Sorry.

So go ahead, download and enjoy.

Mrs. Stylebook Sloper Download

Monday, May 28th, 2007

I’ve scanned the sloper from the Mrs. Stylebook 2007 issue.

Here’s how to download

  1. Decide your size (there is 77-89 or 89-104). These are by bust measurement, in centimeters.
  2. Go to this album and click on the image for the size you need
  3. Now you have two options
    1. In the upper right hand corner, there is an “image size” option. Pickthe largersize, then right click and select “save item as”.
    2. or you can select the “download this in .zip” link in the description.
  4. Take the image to Kinko’s, or wherever, and have them plot it out for you.

Happy Sewing!!

The train is pulling out of the station!!

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

It’s been a pretty long time since anything has been happening over here, but the train is finally leaving the station!!  I’ve got my steam back (and a camera).  Between you and me, being in a situation where you don’t have a camera handy can really be disabling on the ‘net.  It a multi-media age!!

In case you weren’t aware, I had completed a move a month or so back.  I’ve finally unpacked the sewing room (after buying all new furniture) and have a decent workspace again.  It’s not 100% there, but at the moment it’s a useable space.

I’ve been adding photos of completed projects (albiet slowly) to the What’s New? section… I will have some official site updates once I catch up on the rest of the site maintainence.

Until then!! Caio!!

Site Updates - March 2, 2007

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Let’s be frank, not much has been happening around here.  (Yawn - booorrriiiing)  … but that is all changing now.  I’m back!!

What has happened in my absence??

  1. Well,  I made an abortion of this dress … Vogue 1806, circa 1996, Badgley Mischka
  2. My Patrones top is 95% done, just need to put the cuffs on the sleeves.
  3. Finished a muslin of each the Hotpatterns Portobello Shearling Coat and the Martini Jacket.

But hey, it’s OK!! I’ll catch up. Here’s this month’s menu…

  1. The poll winner from last month was the Vintage Vogue Couturier Design by Jo Mattli. The progress thread for that project is here, and it is already underway.
  2. The last poll winner from November/December was the Hotpatterns Phoebe Jacket. I will be starting that later this month, also.
  3. I will also be finished up the Hotpatterns projects for which I’ve started muslins.

One bit of bad news… I can’t find the charger for my camera!! So I will need to either 1. get a new one or 2. borrow one to be able to share anything with you. Oh the drama of moving… Oh Yes!! Did I forget to mention that I’m moving??

Happy New Year!

Can you believe it?? I’ve survived another year without landing in a sanitarium yet  …

This update is primarily reassure everyone that I’m still here, and I’m still going strong.  I know I’ve been in MIA status for a while now (almost a month) and I have completed some projects, but not had time to upload photos or type up articles.   I will have these up very soon.  I’m in the middle of a Post-Holiday Avalanche of Responsibility.  BTW - I got a brand new Rowenta Advancer for XMAS!! How lucky am I?  (not very, according to my friends, but BOOO!! to them - they just don’t get “IT”).  Anyone else get something AWESOME for XMAS?? Or just because??

Last I wrote, I had a list of “catch up” projects to complete for December.  Lo and behold, I actually managed to get a couple of them done -

  • October 2006 Poll winner … the Vintage 50’s Butterick dress.  Photos are coming soon.  It turned out VERY WELL.  I wore this one to my company Holiday Party.
  • I also finished my cousin’s suit ( the coat only ) for his first High School Formal.  He looked very sharp.  I need to complete the article on it, also.
  • Pretty much the rest of the projects on that list are still trying to stay out of UFO status and remain on the “TO DO” list for January.  The April Patrones project seems to has lost it’s hold on my friend, and we never got finished fitting the muslin stage.  Oh well.  Maybe I’ll make it for me instead ;-)

Other Bits of Business

  1. The November/December poll winner was the Hotpatterns Phoebe Jacket.  That project will kick off soon.  There should be a new poll up within the next few days, so please cast your vote when it is available!!
  2. I am working on a Pattern Review plugin for Wordpress.  I will hopefully have the program available sometime this month, I will (of course) announce its availability when I’m done.
  3. I hope your New Year is off to a strong start, mine is full of Hope and Opportunity (and maybe some Action, too).  Have you make any resolutions?

Site Updates - December 3, 2006

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

So as you may have noticed… I’ve been working on the website (again, sigh).  Some day, It will be *perfect* … that day is not today.

The Holidays were *probably* the worst possible time I could have picked for myself … because it is this time of the year my schedule is constantly changing as my personal affairs get in the way of my sewing and other creative outlets.  You will notice that the December 2006 poll is not up yet.  I don’t plan on having a poll this month because I need to play some serious catch-up.

I launched a new site on December 1. It is called Sew Fearless!! It is a blog, and will have open enrollment for authors. The theme is sewing without fear. I encourage anyone that sews “off the beaten path” to contribute. We need a site where ideas flow, to inspire each other to step-up and move beyond the fear.

Without further ado, here is what’s on the menu for this month:

  1. Finish up the project from the October poll!  Butterick 8036, vintage 1950’s dress
  2. Finish up my cousin’s suit for his winter formal dance… this project will be featured on Sew Fearless as my first official contribution.  The pattern itself is from the 1970’s, in a very trendy “skinny cut”.  It was a gift from Tatterdemalion of The House of Tatterdemalion (see the blogroll to visit T).
  3. Tatterdemalion also sent me a bazillion (so I’m exaggerating) vintage patterns to distribute amongst all of you, so I will have to get a designated area built for you all to pick out your patterns (If you want any of them).
  4. Finish the Cavalli Project. Did you see the What Does This Fabric Want to Be? thread?? I have settled on a pattern, This One. This is probably going to be challenging as I haven’t done a Burda for myself in years and I need to figure out Burda’s sloper all over again.
  5. Finish the past-due upload to patternaddiction.com.
  6. Did I forget anything?? Oh yes… Happy Holidays!!

Rock on!! - TA
